      <image:title>About Us - Our Journey</image:title>
<image:caption>Reverse The Trend Foundation began in 2014 when our founder learned of how a 12-year- old child in the UK had received a gastric bypass as a life-saving measure. Extensive research began into the many complex factors that influence energy balance. These factors have led to an increase in calories consumed, a reduction in energy expended and health inequalities among communities and demographic groups. From our pilot research we recognised that we must work with the whole child. Mental Health walks hand in hand with Physical Health. We continuously develop our programmes, guided by scientific evidence. We have created a team of business leaders, public sector experts, academics and scientists to exchange ideas and create an innovative and integrated solution to the childhood physical and mental health crisis. An evidence-based, evidence gathering, solution combining innovative science and business practices and involving collaboration from several sectors resulted in the creation of our current health initiative which is being rolled out across the UK. Reverse The Trend was registered as a charity in 2016.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Epidemics</image:title>
<image:caption>Children and young people make up a third of the population and their health and wellbeing is a top priority, but our young people are increasingly exposed to two childhood epidemics – obesity and mental distress. Childhood obesity in the UK is a major public health problem. In 2017/2018, more than one in five children in the first year of primary school were overweight or obese. By the time children leave primary school this figure will have risen to one in three. This burden is not spread equally; at the age of 10/11yrs, children in the most deprived areas are almost twice as likely to be obese than those in more affluent areas. Obese children often become obese teenagers and adults. Childhood overweight and obesity are linked to greater risks of many chronic diseases later, especially Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, muscle and joint problems and some types of cancer. Obesity is estimated to cost the NHS over £4 billion every year. Overweight and obesity can reduce children’s self-esteem and lead to lower educational attainment and behavioural problems. The causes of obesity in childhood are linked to poor diet, lack of physical exercise and a sedentary lifestyle.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Epidemics</image:title>
<image:caption>Mental health issues in children and young people are a significant and growing concern; mental health issues often develop early and, between the ages of 5-15, one in every eight children has a mental disorder. Half of all mental health problems are established by the age of 14 and yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age. Mental ill-health affects everyone to a greater or lesser extent. Mental ill-health cost many thousands of early deaths and over £105 billion a year in England, £9 billion a year in Scotland, £7 billion a year in Wales and £3 billion a year in Northern Ireland. These figures are believed to be an underestimate. Optimal treatment for mental disorders will only avert 28% of the burden of mental illness, highlighting the need for prevention. Covid-19 and the measures taken to counter it have caused huge health and economic harm that makes supporting mentally healthier communities even more important.</image:caption>

Through Joint Working we have built sustainable partnerships across traditional boundaries associated with Mental Health Services. The impact of this early intervention - increasing health literacy, resilience and coping strategies in young people could significantly lower the incidences of mental health issues in young people, reducing the number of crisis presentations.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We have worked with Public Health Directors across the UK since our conception in 2014. By engaging with Public Health we can help identify and deliver time-critical and preventative measures as part of a social prescribing model. Neuronimo is an evidence-based approach which offers a compelling market opportunity to provide a conduit connecting Public Health interventions with children and young people, offering an attractive solution to delivering public health interventions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We work with Local Government Authorities across the UK to ensure our work reaches the areas which need it most. With a school-based delivery system we work within communities to understand culture and challenges. We create bespoke programmes to attain the best possible sustainable outcomes in each area. <image:caption>As the only bodies that connect NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry, AHSN’s are catalysts that create the right conditions to facilitate change across whole health and social care economies, with a clear focus on improving outcomes. This means they are uniquely placed to identify and spread health innovation at pace and scale; driving the adoption and spread of innovative ideas and technologies across large populations. We have worked with AHSN’s since 2016 to ensure we facilitate change across two epidemics; childhood obesity and mental distress.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Programmes - NEURONIMO THE EARLY YEARS</image:title>
<image:caption>When children really understand what is happening in their brain, they can adjust and manage emotions such as fear, anxiety and worry. The Neuronimo programme helps children and young people aged create healthy habits around mental and physical health. We use behavioural science in our programmes, teaching children how their brains and bodies respond to fear, anxiety, impulsiveness and what actions they can take to manage responses and reactions. When children understand why their heart is beating faster, or why they can't sleep, or why their mind goes blank or why they lash out, they can implement actions which help manage these emotions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Programmes - NEURONIMO FOR TEENS</image:title>
<image:caption>During adolescence, the brain goes through a massive and magnificent redesign. This is to give children the neural firepower to make the transition from dependent little people to independent, productive, happy adults. It’s an exciting time, but it doesn’t always feel this way. Adolescence can be punctuated by entirely wonderful highs that come bundled in new discoveries and flourishing independence, as well as gut-wrenching lows. The Neuronimo programme works with teens to help them understand and manage emotions such as anger, anxiety, impulsiveness, boredom and to implement this management on a consistent basis.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mission - Our Mission</image:title>
<image:caption>We will apply evidence based techniques to reverse the trend of childhood obesity and promote mental wellness within this generation of children. Think of a school class. 1 in 4 of those children will suffer from an obesity-led illness such as heart disease or Type 2 diabetes. One in three will suffer from a mental health problem. These numbers are escalating in the UK. What can we do about it? Yes, you can cut out sweets and treats for kids or limit screen time, but we know from personal experience that it doesn't last. This is where the boffins at Reverse The Trend Foundation have cracked it. We work with children to create healthy habits that will last a life time. Remember when you were first taught to tie your shoelaces? We bet you still tie them the same way. That's a habit cycle. Working with Neuroscientists, Reverse The Trend Foundation has created the Neuronimo programme which employs the Habit Cycle to reinforce physical, nutritional and emotional wellbeing. Imagine if children were shown how to create healthy habits. Not just physical and nutritional ones, but emotional ones too. Imagine if they could increase their self-esteem, sleep better, express feelings and move more. But we want to make it fun too. That’s why children aged 8-16 help to create our BOBS (Bursts of Brilliance). We have one aim – to reverse childhood obesity and mental distress within our generation of children. We don’t want to wait until these children are suffering from obesity related or mental health issues. We are acting now.</image:caption>
